Ok I'm going to blame Kurt for me getting in on this, he was texting and badgering me about running silent and deep so far, so here goes.
With a little luck I should have some progress photos after this weekend.

Thanks Kurt!
Is this the newer version with the prepainted canopies?

No Pete, it's one of the original boxings.

I saw one of these boxing on consignment at Royalβs not too long ago. Almost picked it up. The Lancaster is one of those so ugly itβs cool planes. Exceedingly British!

Ok,
I have Friday afternoons off, so to work on this beast!
Cockpit assembled and ready for the paint booth. What's that small 30-60-90 triangle doing in the picture you ask?
Glad you asked. With the chamfered corner to let the glue pass through or to get around fuselages, it really helps get assemblies square.
The vertical stabilizer is 90 degrees to the horizontal stabilizer.

Which one are you going with , Court? Dam Buster or Grand slam?

Paul, I'm building the Lancaster Mk 1 Special, the Grand Slam bomber, since the original kit is easier to convert it to Mk 1 than a Mk 3. I'll have to get some aftermarket parts for the other one in the stash so I can build the Dambuster.

Very nice choice (despite the scale...)!

@greg.kittinger It's pretty amazing he has room on the bench for it isn't it? π

Man - either that is a monster kit, or your bench is really cluttered, or .... wait, that seems so familiar.... π

Big Bird on the bench. What black primer are you using?

Amazing the nacelles are actually worse than Monogram's B-24.

I have read various reviews that indicate that the L/H Inboard nacelle is slightly canted off centerline which makes that landing gear not square-up to the ground. I will try to find one of those reviews. After I read those reviews I decided I would have to see how bad it was to determine if it was something I was going to spend time correcting it.

They were over there. I hate it when that happens.

Looking good. I like the look of the base mottle effect.

How did you make that repair of the nacelles?

Lots of putty. Dug into the Mr. Surfacer with a putty knife.

Nice effect. I've black-based my 2 Phantoms, and getting ready to shoot paint on them. Two different types of paint- will be interesting to see how they both respond to the base layer.

Sitting here looking at the faded effects of the black basing on the paint. I'm not sure about how the decals, being nice and opaque will look. The smaller markings will not show the lack of fading as noticable as those big targets, eerrr..., roundels.
Thanks Kurt!

Looks better than I thought it would.
